Yesterday we went to the Westchester Kids Fair. We had never been there before and it looked interesting from the advertising we saw, so we decided it would be a good way to spend the afternoon. We went for the last two hours that it was open. We were a little disappointed at first that some of the stands were companies that were more about propaganda than about children. However, this was made up by companies that went all out and offered free services and demonstrations that the children loved. Elmo stopped by and our toddler loved it. She wasn't happy to walk away from him until she got a hug. It was really cute. Our 8 year old got to learn about DNA and genes by attending a small workshop that taught how to extract DNA from a banana. There was face painting, coloring, drawing and teaching-related stands that taught things like electricity and nutrition. Paula and Carole from The Magic Garden show from the 1970s held a concert there but we missed it. It had been earlier in the day. The whole fair was sponsored by various companies, including a Westchester radio station. It was presented by the local children's hospital.
We were able to gather good resources from the various stands on things to do with the kids that we didn't know about such as the local YMCA, businesses that offer fun things for kids like drawing, music, cooking and sports. It was a fun day, I recommend it to families in the area!
